Sligo County Library User Policy has been created to protect the rights and safety of Library members, staff and for preserving and protecting the library’s materials, equipment and facilities. Quiet and co-operative behaviour is expected at all times.

The Libraries patrons are expected to:

  • Adhere to our Zero Tolerance Policy. This policy on unacceptable behaviour is in operation to ensure that our customers have an enjoyable visit to the library and that staff may carry out their duties unimpeded.

Unacceptable behaviour

    • Threatening or abusive behaviour towards customers or staff.
    • Damage to library property.
    • Entering areas of the library marked Staff Only
    • Non compliance with health & safety procedures and drills.
    • Being drunk and disorderly or under the influence of drugs.
  • Refrain from marking materials with pencil, ink, tape, paper clips and/or bending corners of pages.
  • Refrain from ripping or cutting pages out of materials. Please make copies instead, ensuring that you adhere to the Copyright Act 2000.
  • Refrain from eating food/drinking and/or using tobacco products in the library.
  • Treat library staff and other library users with courtesy and respect.
  • Refrain from using mobile telephones for phone calls or any other type of electronic device for voice communications
  • Refrain from taking materials out of the library without first checking them out.

Note: Anyone engaging in disruptive behaviour may be denied further access to the Libraries.
